The final day of the first academic attachment to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) by remote postgraduate research students from Badan Riset dan Inovasi Nasional (BRIN), was marked with a Research Colloquium, jointly organized by UTM and BRIN.  The colloquium held at Le Grandeur, Palm Resort Johor on the 3rd of October 2022 has the following theme: ‘Sustainable engineering towards emerging tremendous benefits to meet global sustainable need’.

The event was gratified with an exciting and motivating opening remark delivered by Acting Dean, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Prof. Dr. Hazilan bin Md Noor. This is followed by an inspirational keynote speech from the 2018 Top Scientist Malaysian Award recipient, Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohamad Kamal A Rahim. Later, one master and 16 PhD students presented their research topics and findings from the fields of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, and computing.

Although the preparation time was short, the students had delivered their presentations excellently. Useful comments, ideas, and suggestion by the lecturers and supervisors after the presentation were given to assist students in their research. The colloquium ended with some valuable closing remarks from the UTM-BRIN Collaborative Research-Based Postgraduate Program project leader, Prof. Ir. Dr. Sevia Mahdaliza Idrus.

In the evening, the colloquium closed its curtain with a dinner session where the students were thrilled to have honorable guests from UTM to join them. These included Prof. Ts. Dr. Safian Sharif (Director of UTM Pagoh Campus), Prof. Ir. Dr. Abu Sahmah bin Mohd Supa’at (Chair of Innovative Engineering Research Alliance), Prof. Ir. Dr. Mohd Wazir (Acting Dean, Faculty of Electrical Engineering), Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Zaini Ahmad (Acting Dean, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) and Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir bin Wan Kadir (Acting Dean, Faculty of Computing). In their speeches, Prof. Safian and Prof. Abu Sahmah were pleased by the arrival of UTM-BRIN first batch students where the success of this collaboration was the outcome from collective efforts and hard work by many individuals in both organizations.

Finally, the advisory committee, Assoc. Prof. Ir. Dr. Nadiatulhuda Zulkifli and Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Roshanida A. Rahman and student committee, Mr. Tinton Atmaja, Mr. I Dewa Putu Hermida, Mr. Taufiqqurrachman and Mrs. Raden Tina Rosmalina extended their utmost gratitude to the UTM Research Management Centre, School of Graduate Studies, and the respective faculties for their kind support in organizing the event.

We pray that all students will be successful in their research.
