A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed virtually between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) to enable strategic collaboration in the field of Built Environment.
The MoU was being signed by UTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ts. Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail while SRMIST was represented by its Vice-Chancellor, Dr. C. Muthamizhchelvan.
The ceremony was also witnessed by Acting Dean of Faculty of Built Environment & Surveying (FABU), Assoc. Prof. Sr Dr. Razali Adul Hamid.
UTM Architecture Programme Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr Alice Sabrina Ismail said Vice-Chancellors from both universities did not only agree to collaborate in learning and research activities, but also pointed out the importance of both universities stepping forward and involve in Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) activities.
“This is vital for both institutions to become leadership champions and provide stewardship by addressing the environmental footprint to help the built environment development in both countries for humanity’s benefit, especially during these challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the great names that represented SRMIST during the collaboration discussion were its Director of International Relations, Dr. Kartar Singh, Dean Collage of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Dr. T. V. Gopal, Dean School of Architecture and Interior Design, Dr. P. Satheesh Kumar, Head Department of Architecture, Prof. Dr. C. Pradeepa, Head Department of Design, Ar. Saravana Raja and the MoU Coordinator from SRMIST School of Architecture and Interior Design, Prof. Dr. R.Shanthi Priya.
Dr Alice Sabrina said that since the discussion, numerous academic activities and research alliances have successfully conducted between these two institutions specifically in the area of built environment involving the field of architecture.
“UTM and SRMIST have conducted many international joint design colloquium, knowledge and cultural sharing sessions in building design projects as a collaborative effort.
This kind of programme has significantly attained more excellent response and learning goals that benefit the academic fraternity in both institutions and successfully reached out to the broader global community,” said Dr Alice Sabrina.
Dr Alice Sabrina added that numerous future collaborations between both institutions will be conducted soon and it is hoped that both institutions will achieve high excellence in research and academic endeavours.

It was founded in 1985 as SRM Engineering College.
