Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) rises higher and strengthens its global prominence as the 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings results announced in October 2020.
While the main thrust of UTM is engineering and technology, other subjects, which are Education, Business and Economics and Social Sciences are distinctively making the university proud by reaching higher spots than the previous rankings released in the past year, making UTM being recognised as the no. 1 in Malaysia in the respective subjects.
UTM Social Sciences subject has made up to Top 200 globally and has made the university no.1 in Malaysia in the subject.
Meanwhile, UTM is ranked no.2 in Malaysia and Top 150 globally in Education subject, symbolising the university’s and its academicians’ efforts in aspiring the Sustainable Development Goals 4: Quality Education, has been recognised globally.
According to its website, https://www.timeshighereducation.com/, the 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings table for Education subjects uses the same rigorous and balanced range of 13 performance indicators as the overall World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.
The THE rankings highlights the universities that are leading across education, teacher training and academic studies in education subjects.
This year, they have made a small adjustment to the eligibility criteria for academic staff in the subject tables, which has resulted in more universities being eligible for inclusion.
The university has also climbed higher to the Top 250 spot in Business and Economics from its previous rank, making its way to also no.2 in Malaysia.
The THE World University Rankings 2021 includes almost 1,400 universities from 92 countries.
