A Dialogue Session between Architecture Program FABU and Industrial Advisory Architecture Panel

The Architecture Program, Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), had conducted a dialogue session with a prominent Advisory Industrial Panel (AIP) in UTM Kuala Lumpur on 24th September 2020. This session was attended by four appointed Industrial Advisory Panel who have expertise in the field of architecture comprising Dato’ Ar. Nur Haizi binti Abdul Hai, Dato’ Ar. Ezumi Harzani bin Ismail, Ar. Saifudin bin Ahmad and Ar. Jasmeet Pal Singh Sidhu with the academic and administrative staff from the Architecture program.

This dialogue session managed to fulfill various aspects of program objectives which included matters such as gaining advice on the relevance of architecture curriculum to be in line with current industry needs; discussing the critical challenges in the market relating to professional architectural disciplines and the built environment; obtaining advice on the best approach to expose students to industrial practices; acquiring advice on how to create links that can facilitate and increase the marketability of graduates; seeking advice on how to strengthen the relationship between professional architectural programs with national as well as international industries to meet the needs of professional bodies; and attaining advice on how to create links that can facilitate research collaboration between the architecture program with the industry.

This one-day dialogue session gave mutual benefit to both parties and much beneficial for the architecture program development and succession planning in the future. It is hoped that many sessions with the appointed AIP can be conducted in the future to ensure the quality of the Architecture program in terms of producing market-ready graduates and future-ready curriculum.
