UTM won 1st and 2nd Place in The Great Lab (TGL) Grand Design Challenge 2019.

Seven Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) students from the Faculty of Engineering won the first and second place in The Great Lab (TGL) Grand Design Challenge 2019 held in Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang on 23 November 2019. The event was held at the Collaborative Research in Engineering Science & Technology, Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science & Technology (CREST) located at Persiaran Bukit Jambul Bayan Lepas, Pulau Pinang.

The 1st Prize winner team comprised Ng Wen Da (3rd-year Mechatronics Engineering), Kimberly Foo Ming-Xia (3rd-year Mechanical Engineering) and Maximilian Fam Khiung Vui (3rd-year Mechatronics Engineering).
The first prize-winning team was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr Yeong Che Fai and Assoc. Prof. Dr Eileen Su Lee Ming from Faculty of Engineering, and came out with the project BBCare, a portable Internet of Thing (IoT) fetal monitoring system with machine learning with collaboration with Dr Woon Shu Yuan from Hospital Umum Sarawak.

The Second Prize Winner team was represented by Lee Pin Loon (4th-year Mechatronics Engineering ), Looi Kian Seong(4th-year Mechatronics Engineering ), Ng Kin Jang(4th-year Electronics Engineering) and Looi Kian Seng(3rd-year Software Engineering). They were supervised by Assoc.Prof. Ir. Dr Ahmad Athif with project titled is Hydro Health On-Demand (H2O).

The 2019 The Great Lab (TGL) Carnival would be featuring the 2019 TGL Grand Design Challenge Finale competition for over 53 high school and university teams.
