IEEE My-SIGHT for Rural Technologies team lead by Assoc. Prof Dr Robiah Ahmad has embarked on a technology-based project to provide clean water to the isolated community of Kampong Sg. Tiang, Royal Belum State Park, Perak. The project was funded by IEEE Humanitarian Activity Committee (IEEE HAC), Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak, and UTM.

IEEE My-SIGHT for Rural Technologies was formed by IEEE members from Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics.  The group has received grant amounting to USD 21,700 from IEEE Humanitarian Activity Committee (HAC) to undertake a technology-based project in providing clean water for the isolated community of Kampong Sungai Tiang, Royal Belum State Park, Perak.  This was the second trip to Kampong Sg Tiang with the objective of building a small dam in the upstream river of Sg. Tiang and installing and commissioning the ram pump. The distance between the upstream river source and the location of the ram pump is about 2 km.  With some help from the orang asli from Kampong Sg Tiang, the HDPE pipes  were laid out in parallel  of 3 units along the 2 km river bank. We underestimated the amount of work needed to be done due to the low water level and therefore needed another trip to finish the installation and commissioning the ram pump. In this trip, we received full support from the Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak where they provided complimentary usage of the Casuarina Houseboat to house 26 volunteers for 4 days and 3 nights, and a barge to carry 60 reels of HDPE pipes (each is 100 m long).  Thank you to Project Leader Assoc. Prof Dr Robiah Ahmad, technical team leader Kamal Azam and Dr Shamsul Sarip, My-SIGHT for Rural Technologies Members, volunteers from UTM-KL staff and students for the great job done. Lastly, we would like to thank everyone for helping us directly or indirectly in our effort to provide clean water to the isolated community of Kg Sg Tiang, Royal Belum National Park.
