Kuala Lumpur –  7th May 2019 : UTM International Kuala Lumpur  recently organized the 4th Community Program called 1 item 1 person campaign which was initiated in 2016.  In this program, UTM collaborated with Mr. Hassan AlAkraa from Syria who is the founder of a non-profit organization called Al-Hassan Volunteer Network. He is also currently an undergraduate student at the Nottingham University, Semenyih.

The program was made possible by a group of five international volunteers including a Syrian student from UTM Kuala Lumpur, a strong support by UTM Staff and International Alumni from Iran, Yemen and Sudan. The program aims to increase awareness about the underprivileged communities to commemorate the holy month of Ramadhan. As part of a corporate social responsibility (CSR) effort, the UTM international students were given the opportunity to examine the social fabric of the underprivilieged communities while simultaneously provide necessary help and assistance via contributions made by UTM Kuala Lumpur staff and students during the campaign.

By using the CSR platform, the donations received were given to four receiving families consisting of Afghanistan, Somalian and Yemeni, to meet the basic needs of each family. The donation was delivered by Assoc. Professor Dr. Abd Rahman Abdul Rahim and Assoc. Professor Dr. Norhayati Abdullah from UTM International office together with UTM International team members from UTM Kuala Lumpur led by Ms. Norfazliana Jaafar.

As an higher education institution, UTM not only aims to educate but to also enrich our function in society to instill the values of humanities.  Through such community program, students were able to practice the art of giving while embracing cultural diversity in hope of producing students who are more appreciative and aware of societal development and communities. This program also supports the tagline “Lifestyle @UTMKL” whereby students develop  their assets, skills and capabilities in order to motivate them to grow in tandem with the long-term vision and objectives of the university.
