Azman Hashim International Business School, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) KL had organised a sharing session on palm oil industry last Saturday, 16th March 2019 at Menara Razak UTM Kuala Lumpur.

The eye opening talk given by Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Yusof Basiron, the former CEO of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) has captured the audience at large. Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Yusof Basiron, shared with the participants  his 40 years of experience transforming Malaysian  palm oil industry to where it is now amidst international threats.

Malaysia, the second largest oil producer in the world, has been stormed with unfavorable remarks from the developed world where the produce has been perceived as unhealthy and unsustainable. In relation to this, MPOC has taken various strategies to eradicate these unsubstantiated allegations. These included investments in research and development activities to highlight the health benefits of palm oil compared to other types of oils. Malaysia is also actively pursuing new markets and has already penetrated the palm oil industry in Japan, China, and the United States. In fact, MPOC is also aggressive in tackling misguided public perceptions toward palm oil through campaigns to regain the positive image and reputation of palm oil.

This program was organized by Professor Abdul Hamid Mohamed, an AHIBS adjunct expert in marketing,  supported by  the AHIBS  support team. Sixty participants have joined the talk including a group of medical doctors enrolled in AHIBS MBA Healthcare who came all the way from Perlis to  participate in this significant program.
