JOHOR BAHRU, 24 Sept. – The School of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an engineering and information technology consultant firm, Reveron Consulting Sdn. Bhd.
The signing ceremony was held at the Banquet Hall, Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building, UTM, Johor Bahru.
The agreement was signed by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Internationalization), Prof. Ir. Dr. Zainuddin Abdul Manan on behalf of UTM while Reveron was represented by their Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Ravi Koka.
The signing was witnessed by the Vice Chancellor of UTM, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar and Reveron Advisor, Datuk Mohamed Azhari Mohamed Kamil.
In his statement after the ceremony, Prof. Wahid said that this MoU promotes academic and industrial collaboration between university and industries in terms of developing the professional capability of UTM students and faculty members in the contemporary knowledge of Building Information Modelling (BIM).
“It is high-time to have this cooperation as it enhances the teaching and learning of BIM in our civil engineering courses such as the Building Information Modelling and Data Management, Integrated Design Projects, Analysis, Design as well as Construction Management.
“Basically, BIM is the process of designing, constructing or operating a building or infrastructure using electronic and object oriented information. This knowledge is highly sought after, as it is relevant to the current needs in construction industries,” he said.
Through this collaboration, UTM will benefit in many aspects such as free license of BIM software for educational and research purposes, series of workshops conducted by the experts from Reveron as well as access to real case studies from the industry.
As for Reveron, the company will have a long term benefits from this partnership by training the students in using the BIM software which will ensure a sustainable talent pool in the BIM industry.
