UTM Culture Corner 13.0 | 26 April 2018 (Thursday) | 7:45-10 pm | Dewan Utama, Pusat Latihan UTM, UTMJB

Theme:- Royal Monarchies

Culture Corner 13.0 saw “Royal Monarchies” as its theme and provided a platform for students from around the globe to share about the unique features of ruling in their countries. The Royal Monarchy is a system of leadership that is headed by a King or Queen that not only serves as a symbol of identity and leadership but also serves the society in strengthening their unity, stability and continuity within their jurisdiction, among others.

The session started with Cuppa  Time which was brimful of coffee, tea, sandwiches, and biscuits. Group selfies invited a more intimate interaction between group members and were uploaded to various social media with the usual hashtags #utmculturecorner #utmawesome#utmstudentexperience #cuppatime. Our Culture Corner moderator,  Dr Farhana Diana Deris, a Senior Lecturer from Language Academy, carried the night on with the next session, where traditionally dressed members from each group cat-walked down the isle for a glamorous display.
Two winners emerged as the King and Queen of the night. The Royal presentations were from six countries, where Indonesia took the lead, followed by China, Afghanistan, Brunei and Nigeria. The presentation from the Malaysian team marked the end of this session. The unique and similar attributes of these Royal rulers were presented and related to one another to figure out the differences and similarities between multiple cultures. One thing in common, for certain, was that all rulers were more inclined to the welfare of their subjects despite different systems of ruling.
The excitement continued as Ms. Fasihah Jaslan from UTM International led the evening session of Kahoot with twelve challenging and informative questions. The session never failed to erupt with cheers, applause, and high-fives as participants were tested based on their concentration and memory of the new knowledge gained during the sharing and presentation sessions.
Three winners with the highest scores emerged in the end. Culture Corner would be incomplete without a sing-along session, this time with the prominent song by Blue entitled “One Love” led by our resident singer Ms. Siti Norziahidayu Amzee, a Ph.D. student from Faculty of Science. As we arrived at the end of our thirteenth Culture Corner, a group photo was captured amidst exhilaration and elation.
Our wish is that the networking and bond created during the event will last forever and it is also our sincere hope that the students have acquired a lot from different cultural background during the sharing and interactions. Keep in touch with our Facebook Page (UTM International Student Experience) for more fascinating, captivating and interactive student activities in and outside UTM.
Yours Sincerely,
Prof Dr Nor Haniza Sarmin
