NESSUTM Debate competition promotes awareness on nuclear energy

JOHOR BAHRU, 17 October 2016 – An English debate competition will be organized by the Nuclear Engineering Students Association of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (NESSUTM) to promote awareness of nuclear energy among the public.
The programme which is called De Fermi Debate Challenge Cup 2016 which will take place from 2 to 5 November 2016 set in the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering, UTM Johor Bahru campus will involve a total of 50 secondary school students from the two states of Melaka and Johor.
NESSUTM Head of Publicity, Puteri Nuraliah Husna Mohd Tajuddin said the programme is a ‘top bidder’ for UTM and is fully supported by the university because of its impact on society.
“Our goal to organize a debate program in English is to expose people, especially the younger generations about the true potential of nuclear energy.
“Participants also have the opportunity to hone their talent and leadership and further develop their confidence to speak and to express opinions,” she said.
According to the Puteri Nuraliah, this kind of programme was held last year and due to the overwhelming response obtained, it was changed as a single programme for 2016.
“This programme was originally a side programme for the Nuclear Awareness Campaign and received incredible support from the participating schools.
“Due to this support we decided to make this debate programme as a single activity of our association,” she said.
