TANGKAK, 18 May 2016 – A Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) was signed between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Yayasan Pelajaran Johor (YPJ) and also the Johor State Education Department (PPNJ) to strengthen the use of English language in the state of Johor.
The agreement was signed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Ledang, Tangkak with UTM Dean of Language Academy, Assoc Prof. Dr. Abdul Halim Abdul Raof, YPJ General Manager, Haji On Jabbar @ Haji Jaafar and Johor State Education Director, Haji Shaharudin Sharif representing their respective agencies.
UTM Vice Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar said that this cooperation should be seen as an effort to expand and strengthen cooperation between the three agencies.
“The pace of economic growth in the state of Johor with the entry of foreign investors has made the communication process through the use of English is essential.
“This is because this second language has become the language of communication that must be studied and explored at national and international levels,” he said.
In addition, the Sultan of Johor, His Royal Highness Sultan Ibrahim Almarhum Sultan Iskandar has also suggested the emphasis of English among the Bangsa Johor in order to allow them to compete globally.
The English Enrichment Programme encompasses English For Management Level; Pedagogy Enhancement for Non- Optionist English Teachers; Pedagogy Enhancement for Optionist English Teachers which include Staging the Textbook, Presentation & Debate Course, English In Camp and Inter-Class Debate; Effective Writing Programme for Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) English Language and MyLine.
Also attending the signing ceremony was the Johor Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.
