JOHOR BAHRU, 7 April 2016 – A Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) student from the Faculty of Education, Mardiana Idris was announced as the Best of the Best winner of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition organised by the School of Postgraduate Studies (SPS). She took home RM1,500 in prize money.

The winner of the Engineering category, Nor Nasrul Akhmal Ngadiman, received a prize money of RM1,000.00, while the winner from the  Science and Technology category, took home RM750 in prize money.

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition is a competition developed by The University of Queensland, Australia. This exercise challenges PhD students to present a compelling oration on their thesis topic and its significance in just three minutes.

This programme develops academic presentation and research communication skills and supports the development of research students’ capacity to effectively explain their research in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

Active PhD candidates who have successfully passed their first stage evaluation and have not graduated are eligible to participate in the 3MT competition at all levels, including the Trans-Tasman 3MT competition.

Mardiana Idris, Nor Nasrul Akhmal Ngadiman and Syed Muhammad Rafy Syed Jaafar will be representing UTM at the National 3MT 2016 competition that will be held at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) in May 2016.
