JOHOR BAHRU, 3 March 2016 – A total of 250 participants of the Student Representative Council from public and private universities, community colleges, Institutes of Teacher Education Malaysia (IPGM) and Kolej Poly-Tech MARA attended the “National Young Leaders Symposium 2016 ‘ or NYLS’16 held at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
The three-day programme which ended on April 3rd 2016 was organized by UTM Student Representative Council in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
NYLS’16 Programme Director, Muhammad Azwan Md. Khalid said this programme was a good platform for student leaders to exchange creative and innovative ideas in the face of current challenges.
“Students also stand the chance to foster positive cooperation and solidarity with other student leaders from various higher education institutions in the country.
“NYLS also aims to provide an opportunity for student leaders to exchange views and give opinions on current issues in addition to providing them with the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills in understanding the ideas and views expressed by others,” he said.
The program also allows the voices of students to be heard as they gave their views and ideas on both local and global current issues.
The programme was officially closed by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, YB Datuk Mary Yap Kain Ching at Dewan Sultan Iskandar, Johor Bahru campus.
Also attending the ceremony were UTM Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir. Dr. Wahid Omar, Director of Student Development, Department of Higher Education, Prof. Dr. Sopian Bujang and President of UTM Student Representative Council, Muhammad Zuhaili Mohammad Aminuddin.
