The Chancellor of UTM, HRH Raja Zarith Sofiah, Tuanku Permaisuri Johor spent an afternoon with some student leaders from the Student Representative Council of UTM, representatives from various UTM student societies such as Postgraduate Students’ Society, the Debating Club of UTM, Toastmasters’ Club of UTM, UTM AIESEC group and so on. The initial meeting with the Chancellor was to discuss possible activities to be implemented for the UTM Chancellor English Language Club, aimed to provide a platform to create opportunities to enhance the proficiency, competency and confidence in using English among UTM students.

It will also unleash students’ potential as most UTM students are certainly bright and talented, whose drawback is only the lack of confidence in expressing themselves in English. Given the right opportunity, students can have more practice in using English in fun and interesting ways towards acquiring confidence in the language, while at the same time discussing issues of concern that affect the world. It is hoped that by the time students leave the university, they are more confident and competent communicating in English, which will make UTM graduates more marketable!
