JOHOR BAHRU, 31 October 2015 – More than 300 cyclists from around Johor Bahru and Skudai participated in the Ecotourism Fun Ride 2015 programme organized by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
The cyclists came from around Johor Bahru and surrounding areas, as well as cyclists from government and non-government bodies like MPJBT, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Seri Alam Cycling Club, PS Holidays, FKT Bike Club, Impian Mas MTB, Redah Cycling Team and many more.
Nearly 30 children participants as young as 8 years old participated in this event.
The participants enjoyed a 22-kilometer ride through several UTM attractions such as the UTM Equine Park, Deer Park,  Observatory Center, and Scholar’s Inn, before finally stopping at  the Sustainable College 9 Arcade for refreshments. A total of 56 lucky draw were also held to enliven the atmosphere.
The Chairman of the Executive Committee of UTM Ecotourism Ride 2015, Prof. Dr. Abd Latif Saleh, said the purpose of organizing this event was to promote UTM as an ecotourism campus that offers a wide range of products and tourism attractions to the outside community.
“Besides promoting our ecotourism activity, this programme was also one of the activities in the 30-Year Celebration of UTM in Johor,” he said.
The Ecotourism Fun Ride 2015 Program Director, En Masnawi Miskam in his briefing before the ride began, expressed his hope that the  event will be memorable for all.
“It is not a competition but a relaxing ride where participants will enjoy the UTM campus,” he said.
The riding activity started and ended at Dataran UTM after being flagged off by UTM Director of Security, En. Abd. Rahim Abd. Karim who also joined the cycling team.
Meanwhile one of the participants, Anas Mat Zuki 46 who joined this programme with his son said that this activity can foster better relationships among cycling enthusiasts of all ages .
“Besides mingling around with other cyclists, this cycling programme can also inspired my son, Aris Anas Hakim to further his studies at UTM in the future,” he said.
