BANGI, 11 April 2015 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Chemical Engineering students, namely, a team who called themselves ‘Fast 4’ did UTM proud in winning the ‘Car Performance’ category at the Chem-E Car Competition 2015 organized by the Institute of Engineers Malaysia (IEM). The team took home a trophy and a cash prize of RM3,000.

The Chem-E-Car Competition 2015 Car Scheme involved two categories, namely  ‘Car Performance’ and ‘Poster Presentation’. In the ‘Car Performance’ category, participants were required to build a shoebox-sized car, powered by a chemical reaction. Winners were selected based on cars which were able to either cross the finish line or stopped nearest before the finish line. The cars were also assessed based on the cars’ ability to maneuver a ball through a fixed goal post. The competition this time round involved two important engineering concepts, namely, power and impact force.

The 2-day competition, which commenced on 10 April 2015, was held at the Tun Abdul Razak Chancellor Hall (DCTAR), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Another UTM student team, H2GO also managed to obtain a place in the Poster Presentation category by clinching the 8th position.

A total of 56 groups of students from Malaysia’s public and private institutions of higher learning, as well as one group from Indonesia participated in this competition.
