JOHOR BAHRU, 26 January 2015 – More than 150 participants from various countries from Southeast Asia including Indonesia, Thailand and Myanmar participated in the International Conference on Future Democracy in Myanmar – Plight of the Oppressed Minority.
This conference was jointly organized by the Faculty of Islamic Civilization of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (FTIUTM) in collaboration with the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organization (MAPIM) and Global Reach Program of Education Malaysia with the support of other stakeholders.
This conference serves as a platform to Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), academics, activists, young leaders as well as the public in general to understand and discuss the current situation in Myanmar, particularly in relation to the Muslim minority community.
The conference was officiated by Tan Sri Syed Hamid Syed Jaafar Albar, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Special Envoy for Myanmar.
Also at the ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Development, Prof. Dr Azlan Abdul Rahman, FTI Deputy Dean of Academic, Assoc Prof. Dr. Ramli Awang and MAPIM President, Tuan Haji Mohd Azmi Abdul Hamid.
