JOHOR BAHRU, 17 February 2015 – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Uyemura (M) Sdn Bhd to facilitate academic collaboration.
UTM was represented by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Datuk Ir Dr Wahid Omar while Uyemura (M) Sdn. Bhd. was represented by Mr. Jiro Okuda, Managing Director.
By signing this agreement, both parties formalized the collaboration of several activities such as Consultation advice, Joint Research and Development (R&D).
Both parties also agreed that priority shall be given to UTM students for internship programme, up to a maximum of three interns at the premises of Uyemura while Uyemura will be given access to library and literature resources.
Uyemura is one of the biggest electroplating companies in the world. with its headquarters in Osaka, Japan.
To date, Uyemura is in control of more than 60 percent of the global share for electroplating related products like hard disk, chips, PCB, semiconductor, automotive part, healthcare products and other general metal finishing products.
In 1996, Uyemura established its Malaysian branches in Pasir Gudang to be the production centre for the ASEAN region, responsible for the manufacturing and sale of a broad range of chemical products and also the development and technical support of surface finishing chemical.
Also at the signing ceremony were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Academic and Internationalization, Prof. Dr Rose Alinda Alias and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdul Aziz.
