TOKYO, 7 December 2014 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) team won two awards at the International Intelligent Home Robotics Challenge 2014 (iHR2014) which was held in Tokyo, Japan.
The team won 3rd place in the ‘Follow Me’ category and was also placed third  overall in the competition, which was held in conjunction with the 1st Intelligent Home Robotics Symposium 2014 held between 6 and 7 December 2014.
The UTM team comprised three undergraduate students (Mohamad Hafizuddin Majek, Seow Yip Loon and Muhammad Faiz Muhammad Rozi) and two postgraduate students (Lim Kian Sheng and Tey Wei Kang) from the Department of Control and Mechatronics Engineering, Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The team advisor was Dr. Mohd Ridzuan bin Ahmad.
iHR2014 is the preamble to the RoboCup@Home competition.
In the RoboCup@Home contest, robots interact with human beings in daily activities, ranging from kitchen work and housecleaning, to moving things and communicating with people.
Founded in 1997, RoboCup is an international robotics competition that aims to promote robotics and artificial intelligence.
