JOHOR BAHRU, 14 May – 22 participants from South East Asia participated in a five-day course on Food Preparation and Dietary Nutrition Technology for Special Educational Needs, held at the Faculty of Education, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
The course was jointly organised by UTM and the South East Asia Minister of Education Organization – Special Education Needs (SEAMEO-SEN) centre.
The participants were from the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO) member countries, namely Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Lao People Democratic Republic (PDR) and Thailand.

The main objective of the course was to introduce participants to the world of science, technology and food processing.

Apart from participating in paper presentations and discussions of current issues in nutritional science for special education, the participants also received hands-on experience in planning, preparing and providing food services which meet the needs of persons with disabilities.

Having completed the course, participants received their certificates from the SEAMO-SEN Centre Director, Dr. Yasmin Hussein. Also present at the closing ceremony was Prof. Dr. Baharuddin Aris, Dean of the Faculty of Education, UTM.
