KANGAR, 13 April – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) teams from both Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering won three awards in the recent Malaysia International Robot Competition (MiROC) 2014 held at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP).
In these three days of competition, UTM participated and successfully won the first place for Conquer Robot Category, and also bagged two awards for Best Poster Design Category. MIROC 2014 contested three categories comprising Conquer Robot, Rope Climbing Robot and Fire Fighting Robot.
For the Conquer Robot category, UTM won the first place and Best Poster Design Award and took home RM4,500.00 in cash, a trophy and certificates. The UTM team also won RM500.00 in cash and a medal for winning the first place in the Best Poster Design for the Fire Fighting Robot category.
The Conquer Robot category task was to conquer the opponent’s area by inserting UTM flags into 3 boxes provided, in three minutes. Meanwhile, the Fire Fighting Robot is a game based on an imaginary fireman rescuing victims and extinguishing fire.
The UTM teams were supervised by Ir. Dr. Ahmad ‘Athif Mohd Faudzi from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Mr. Afandi Bin Dzakaria, Mr. Badri Bin Abd. Ghani, Dr. Jamaludin Bin Hj. Mohd. Taib and Dr. Mohd Shuisma Bin Mohd. Ismail from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
