JOHOR BAHRU, 29 March – Two teams from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) emerged as winner for the first and third placing in Autonomous Hovercraft Competition (AHC) 2014 organized by the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) Semenyih, Selangor Darul Ehsan.

The HC01 team managed to secure the first place and took home RM 1,500.00 cash money, certificate of participation and a trophy after defeating team Legion from the host university while the other team, Aeroglisseur managed to get the third placing bringing home RM 500.00 as cash prize and participation certificate.

Both of the winning teams were being supervised by Dr. Yeong Che Fai, a senior lecturer at Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

As many as 20 teams which consist of university students nationwide participated in this first time UNMC hosted competition.

The format of this competition was building and programming a hovercraft using the materials and sensors provided by the organizer.

The completed hovercrafts then raced on a track given and must be moving on its own without any intervention from the outsider.

The AHC 2014 was organized by the UNMC School of Engineering with collaboration from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) UNMC student chapter, the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) UNMC student branch and UNMC Robotics Society.

It was sponsored by Motorola Solutions Sdn. Bhd, Institution of Mechanical Engineers Malaysia Branch, Sparkle Lite Marketing Sdn Bhd and UNMC Digital Arts Guild.
