Johor Bahru, 19th November, 2012: UTM received Corporate Marine Partner Certificate from the President of Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology (IMarEST), Malcolm Vincent today, following a Marine Partner Agreement signed between UTM and IMarEST on July 2, 2012. UTM Vice Chancellor, Prof Datuk Dr Ir Zaini Ujang, was also be given a certificate upon his acceptance by the Institute as a Fellow. The Marine Partner is a customised corporate package created by working together with companies, universities, research institutes and training colleges, towards a winning partnership with the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science & Technology.

The Institute of Marine Engineering Science & Technology (IMarEST) is an international professional body and learned society for all marine professionals that have been known previously as IMarE (Institute of Marine Engineers) since 1889. In recent times the demands of the engineering disciplines increased and more than ever there was a need for scientist and technologists to find an institution that they could join and affiliate themselves to.  It was at this time that IMarEST was formed in 2002. The IMarEST is a registered charity and is the first Institute to bring together marine engineers, scientists and technologists into one international multi-disciplinary professional body. It is the largest marine organization of its kind with a worldwide membership roll of approximately 15,000 based in over 100 countries.

IMarEST was created to work with the global marine community to promote the scientific development of marine engineering, science and technology, providing opportunities for the exchange of ideas and practices and upholding the status, standards and expertise of marine professionals worldwide.

Worldwide IMarEST has categories of membership for everyone with an interest in the marine world: for those who are seeking professional recognition (Corporate Membership), for those who are currently studying or just starting out in their careers or those who simply have a general interest in the IMarEST, its work, membership, events, publications or facilities (non-Corporate Membership).

In Malaysia a Joint RINA (Royal Institution of Naval Architects) and IMarEST was formed more than twenty (20) years ago. Currently the IMarEST membership roll in the Malaysian branch stands at approx. 600 and a growth of between 15% per year.  The Malaysian joint branch including countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Singapore, Kampuchea and Brunei, comes under the South-East Asia Division (SEAD) headquartered in Singapore and the current divisional President is First Admiral Dato’ Ir Hj Ahmad Murad bin Hj Omar (Rtd) who is also a Council Vice President in UK.

Among others, the agreement between UTM and IMarEST signed in July explored the opportunities for investment in continuing professional development activities where IMarEST will provide accreditation for five years to UTM on one program, branding partnership, global networking, free access of information of core textbooks in digital form, discounts on IMarEST technical papers through IMarEST eShop and many more.

The Corporate Marine Certificate awarded to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia allows the University to lead Malaysian university community along with others like the Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM) and international organisations like the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), British Petroleum, Deep Blue Pte. Ltd. Singapore, Keppel Shipyard and other reputable industry partners. Sale Windows 7 Ultimate
