KUALA LUMPUR, August 24th: – Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Prof. Dato ‘Ir Dr. Zaini Ujang was awarded Honorary Fellowship by the Federation of ASEAN Engineering Organization (AFEO).
The award was presented by the President of the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) Ir. Vincent Chen Kim Kieong in appreciation of his continuous contribution to the advancement and development of the engineering profession, the IEM and the country.
In addition, the award was given because he has demonstrated courage and integrity to the engineering profession.
The award presentation ceremony was held in a special ceremony at the UTM International Campus, Kuala Lumpur, witnessed by the AFEO Secretary-General, Dato’ Paduka Prof. Ir. Dr. Keizrul Abdullah and Chief Commissioner of the ASEAN Engineers Registrar (AER), Ir Choo Kok Beng.
Dr. Zaini expressed appreciation for the recognition in getting the highest award by the AFEO and hopes the award will further enhance efforts to elevate the engineering profession to a higher level.
He also commended the AFEO efforts to lead the professional services of the engineering profession as well as facilitate the mobility of engineers in ASEAN.
The move has given a significant positive effect in liberation of regional professional service in order to make them more relevant in the face of global challenges.
UTM fully supports the engineering profession and has taken steps to encourage academic staff of the university to intensify their efforts to gain recognition as a professional engineer.
Towards this end, UTM has established programs to facilitate the development of professional qualification among the engineering faculty members through the establishment of the Professional Qualification Development Programme Unit at the university.
UTM has also established the IEM Southern Branch in-campus office building to encourage all staff and engineering students to be more closely associated with the professional body especially in learning the ropes of becoming professional engineers.
