Kuala Lumpur, 25th January:  70 percent of UTM alumni are holding various important positions in the country’s engineering and technical sector. The figure is a positive sign that UTM graduates have dominated the employment sector that requires specific expertise and prestige.

YB Datuk Ir. Dr. Wee Ka Siong, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education expresses his pride for being a part of UTM Alumni in an opening speech to celebrate the prominent figures and famous of UTM Alumni at The Sheraton Imperial Hotel here.

“As a UTM graduate, I am proud that UTM Alumni network is ensconced and the scenario has made it a valuable asset to UTM itself. For example, a UTM alumnus is known to be involved in Hong Kong’s money printing. This news makes me feel delighted and believe it is not impossible that one day the name UTM Alumni will be as respectable as other esteemed alumni in the world”

The ceremony was organised by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Alumni Relations Unit for the first time which had successfully gathers more than 60 famous and successful UTM alumni.

It is hoped that the outstanding alumni would be the foundation towards the development of the country specifically and UTM generally in terms of meaningful contributions. Relationship between the two is expected to be strengthened and firmed in the process.

During the same ceremony, The Vice Chancellor of UTM, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang who happens to be a UTM alumnus too had encouraged the attendees to put their hands together in making it a success in sponsorship of UTM Endowment Tower to be launched on the 2nd of February 2011.

“It is my desire that every UTM alumnus would help the university management in its quest to give full scholarships to all under-graduates by the year 2025. This year, UTM is giving RM10, 000 scholarships to 100 excellent students. One of the long-term strategies is to find a sponsor for buildings and other physical area for UTM to achieve the quest.

The signing of Memorandum of Understanding between UTM and 6 companies representing the UTM Alumni is being witnessed during the ceremony. The memorandum is signed by the Vice Chancellor of UTM in representing UTM while representatives of the companies include Associate Professor Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar bin Mohamed Diah (Research and Development, Creativity, Innovation and Commercialization, Malacca Head of Ministry Department), Dato’ Rozilah bt Abdullah (Orient Ventures Sdn. Bhd.), Dato’ Ir. Hj. Mohd Isa bin Sarman (Saba Consultant Sdn. Bhd.), Ir. John Cheah Kam Loong (CIENCO Consulting Engineers), Ir. Zawawi bin Embong (Sarahill Consulting Sdn. Bhd.), and Ir. Hj. Rozali bin Ahmad from RNZ Integrated  (M) Sdn. Bhd.
