UTM Kuala Lumpur International Students Embark on an Enriching Educational Tour of UTM Johor Bahru and UTM Pagoh

JOHOR BAHRU, Oct 20 – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) International recently hosted a two-day educational tour for international students from its Kuala Lumpur campus. This immersive experience introduced students to UTM’s advanced research facilities, academic excellence, and Malaysia’s rich cultural and environmental heritage. The tour aligns with UTM’s mission to foster global engagement, equipping students with a combination of academic knowledge and cultural awareness as they embark on their journey in Malaysia.

The tour began with a visit to Pantai Minyak Beku in Batu Pahat, where students explored the scenic coastline and the historical Perigi Batu Pahat (Batu Pahat Well). This landmark, known for its cultural significance, gave students a glimpse into Johor’s heritage, linking their academic experience to Malaysia’s rich history.

From the tranquil beaches, the group traveled to Tanjung Piai, the southernmost tip of mainland Asia. They walked through serene mangrove forests and enjoyed panoramic views of the Straits of Malacca, highlighting Malaysia’s ecological diversity. This natural excursion emphasized the importance of conservation efforts and introduced students to Malaysia’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

International Student Orientation Program tour

On the second day, the group embarked on a comprehensive UTM Johor Bahru campus tour, visiting some of the university’s most iconic and significant sites. Their first stop was the Office of UTM International, which symbolizes the university’s commitment to building global partnerships and fostering cross-cultural academic collaborations.

Next, they explored the Sultan Ibrahim Chancellery Building, UTM’s administrative hub, where students gained insight into the university’s governance structure and its leadership role in academic innovation. Afterwards, they visited the UTM Gallery, where they learned about the university’s historical milestones and impactful research, highlighting UTM’s journey as a pioneer in education and technology.

The final stop at the UTM Library showcased the university’s dedication to lifelong learning. The library provides access to a wealth of resources and knowledge that support UTM’s vibrant academic community.

After exploring UTM Johor Bahru, the students proceeded to UTM Pagoh for an engaging, hands-on experience at research centers dedicated to sustainability and advanced biotechnological research. At the UTM Centre for Low Carbon Transport in Cooperation with Imperial College London (LoCARtic), students gained insights into cutting-edge research on sustainable transportation technologies to support low-carbon initiatives and reduce environmental impacts.

Next, they visited the UTM Innovation Centre in Agritechnology for Advanced Bioprocessing (ICA), where they learned about innovative bioprocessing technologies that promote sustainable agriculture, aligning with Malaysia’s commitment to eco-friendly practices. The tour concluded with the Kelah Project, a unique initiative focused on sustainable fish conservation, highlighting UTM’s vital role in biodiversity preservation and ecological sustainability. The students expressed their gratitude to the UTM Johor Bahru and UTM Pagoh teams for their warm welcome and detailed engagement, which made the visit an enriching and memorable experience. This educational tour provided students with valuable insight into UTM’s academic strengths, pioneering research, and commitment to sustainable practices, fostering a deeper appreciation and connection to UTM’s mission as they embark on their studies.

Organized as part of the International Student Orientation Program (ISOP), this visit reflects UTM’s dedication to offering a globally relevant education that enriches students’ academic and cultural understanding, reinforcing its position as a premier institution for international scholars.
