August 3, 2022 – Twenty Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) postgraduate students will be attending a Japan Attachment Programme from 19 August 2022 until 10 September 2022. The students were briefed by Miss Shirley Teng from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Malaysia regarding the JICA’s Knowledge Creation Program at JICA Malaysia Office. The briefing was then continued by Dr Shohei Matsuura (JICA Expert and Visiting Associate Professor) from Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT) on the preparation and details of the Japan Attachment Programme.

The Japan Attachment Programme is a 3-week intensive field visit and lectures implemented as a part of the Master of Disaster Risk Management (MDRM) programme at Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT). This programme will provide an opportunity for the participants to gain field experience in Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) conducted in Japan.

Several international agencies, universities and organisations will be involved in this Japan Attachment Programme. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is providing financial and logistical assistance, Tsukuba University providing technical and on-site logistic support for the East Japan (Kanto) Program, Kyoto University will be hosting the joint seminars and supporting the West Japan (Kansai) Program and many other organizations that will receive the MDRM students and will share their invaluable experiences and knowledge for building resilience to natural disasters.
