CYBERJAYA, 17 Sep. – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a company that currently is spearheading the New National Car Project (NNCP), DreamEDGE Sdn. Bhd.

This historic ceremony marked the beginning of the AIM4STAR Consortium that was recently launched late last year under the Center for Community and Industry Network (CCIN) to empower academia, industry, government and society for synergetic transformation.

The MoU ceremony was signed by UTM Vice-Chancellor representative, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dato’ Ir. Dr. Mohammed Rafiq Dato’ Abdul Kadir and CEO of DreamEDGE Sdn. Bhd, Datuk Khairil Adri Adnan.

The signing ceremony was also witnessed by UTM’s Chair of Frontier Materials Research Alliance Prof. Dr. Safian Sharif, and DreamEDGE Sdn Bhd’s Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Azhan Abdul Aziz.

The collaboration forged between UTM and DreamEDGE is focused on empowering research solutions and products to be more competitive and relevant in the industry while working closely in the R&D on selected 4IR areas, such as IoT, robotics, big data and interactive media.

Datuk Khairil Adri was also appointed as an Adjunct Professor under UTM’s Faculty of Engineering that encourages him to actively participate in other academic activities.

The commitment between UTM and DreamEDGE is even further evidenced with the launching of UTM’s satellite office located within DreamEDGE’s premises in Cyberjaya.

In addition to that, DreamEDGE will start to accept UTM students as part of the industrial placement programme during the first semester of 2020/2021. Seven interns from School of Computing have been selected to work alongside the Creative Work Group at DreamEDGE on IoT and interactive media systems.

UTM delegation to Cyberjaya included Faculty of Engineering’s Assistant Dean for External and Global Engagement, Prof. Dr. Shuhaimi Mansor, Chair of School of Computing, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir, Director of Research Management Centre, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shukor Abd Razak, School of Computing’s Industry Linkage Coordinator, Dr. Muhammad Iqbal Tariq Idris, Advanced Informatics School’s Business Development Manager, Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Naz’ri Mahrin from Razak School, and Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT)’s Manager of Sangaku Renkei Center, Dr. Zulhasni Abdul Rahim.

Officers from the Centre for Community and Industry Network and Office of Corporate Affairs were also in attendance to witness the ceremony.

The collaboration between UTM and DreamEDGE is initiated from numerous visits at UTM Johor Bahru and DreamEDGE Cyberjaya during the CEO@Faculty Programme 2.0 Cycle 3, which took place from February to August 2020.

The programme organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Higher Education Leadership Academy (AKEPT) has placed Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Masitah Ghazali from the School of Computing, Faculty of Engineering as a fellow at DreamEDGE Sdn Bhd.
