JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 2024 – The Department of Physics, Faculty of Science at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), recently welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Institute of Modern Physics (IMP), University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), China. IMP, recognized globally for its pioneering research in heavy-ion science and technology, visited UTM to explore avenues for international collaboration between the two leading institutions.
The IMP delegation, led by Prof. Dr. Wei Wei, Deputy Director of Academic Affairs at IMP, included Chief Scientist Prof. Dr. Ong Hooi Jin and former Deputy Director Prof. Dr. Yuan Ping. The primary objective of their visit was to establish potential research partnerships and academic collaborations with UTM’s Faculty of Science.
Throughout the visit, representatives from both UTM and IMP engaged in productive discussions, focusing on joint initiatives in fundamental and applied research, particularly in heavy-ion accelerator technology. Both institutions also explored opportunities for launching joint postgraduate programs, identifying several key areas for collaboration.
Dr. Roslinda Zainal, Director of UTM’s Physics Department, emphasized the importance of the visit, stating, “This engagement has opened many doors for future research and academic collaborations, promising significant benefits for our students, lecturers, and researchers.”
The IMP delegation expressed their satisfaction with the discussions and extended an invitation for UTM’s Physics Department to visit IMP in the near future. This visit represents a significant step in strengthening UTM’s international partnerships, advancing research innovation, and enhancing educational opportunities for both institutions.
