UTM Students Win Top Prize at Atma Jaya Business & Innovation Expo 2024

JAKARTA, 8 June – Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) marked a significant achievement at the 3rd Atma Jaya Business & Innovation Expo (ABIEX) 2024, held at Universitas Katolik Indonesia (UNIKA) Atma Jaya in Jakarta, Indonesia. A total of five teams from UTM competed in the Product Innovation Competition, showcasing their innovative product ideas. The expo, organized by Atma Jaya Incubator Business (AJIB) of UNIKA Atma Jaya, provided a platform for students from UTM and the host university to present their business innovations and entrepreneurial skills. The event, held over two days from June 6-7, featured various competitions including poster presentation, business plan, booth exhibition, and product innovation.

UTM achieved notable successes, with InnoSpace, a team of students from the International Business program at UTM School of Professional and Continuing Education (UTMSPACE), clinching the top prize with their innovative product idea titled IOT-Driven Land Farming Management System and earning IDR 2,500,000. Argenta, with their product of a multipurpose cryptocurrency e-Wallet represented by students from UNIKA Atma Jaya, took home IDR 1,500,000 for second place. LoraPacer, with their affordable and portable pace tracker for runners from the Faculty of Computing, UTM, secured third place with IDR 1,000,000. RenovApp, with their renovation services application, also from the Faculty of Computing, UTM, received IDR 500,000 for fourth place. PrinTEX, another team from the Faculty of Computing, UTM, with their renowned successful printing booth business project was awarded IDR 450,000 for fifth place. Additionally, the Best Presenter award went to Portable Kettle, from the Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), UTM, with a prize of IDR 300,000 for outstanding presentation.

The participation of UTM students was further enriched by the presence of Puan Siti Noraziah Satapah and Puan Suhaiza Yaacob, representatives from UTM Centre For Student Innovation & Technology (UTMXCITE), and Puan Siti Nur Shahida Ab Rahim representing UTMSPACE, who joined the students in this international competition. Furthermore, it is notable that Sir Hairudin bin Abdul Majid advised and encouraged the success of LoraPacer and RenovApp teams. His guidance and support were instrumental in the success of UTM’s teams.

ABIEX 2024 was more than just a competition; it was a vibrant expo featuring a multitude of activities aimed at fostering business acumen and innovation among students. Highlights included the Poster Competition, where students displayed their product ideas through eye-catching posters, the Business Plan Competition, where teams presented comprehensive business plans showcasing their strategic thinking and market understanding, and the Booth Competition, where interactive booths allowed participants to engage with visitors and judges, demonstrating their products and business ideas. In the Product Innovation Competition, teams presented innovative product prototypes, emphasizing sustainability and market potential. The expo also featured insightful talk shows, such as the session on sustainable business strategies with speakers such as Leonardus Herwindo, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Indika Nature, and Eric Kurniadi, founder of Sarana Energi Investama. Additionally, workshops such as the soap-making session provided further insights towards the sustainability research ongoing in UNIKA Atma Jaya especially in the field of soap-making, where soapberry is being researched and utilized thoroughly.

The event not only highlighted the talents of UTM students but also strengthened the bonds between UTM and UNIKA Atma Jaya. The exposure and experience gained by participating in such international competitions are invaluable, helping students enhance their skills and expand their professional networks. UTM extends heartfelt thanks to UTMXCITE, UNIKA Atma Jaya, and all mentors, lecturers, and students involved for their commitment and hard work. The success at ABIEX 2024 is a testament to the potential and dedication of UTM students.
