Faculty of Artificial Intelligence and Pacton Technologies Sign Letter of Collaboration in Advancing AI and IoT Research and Innovation

KUALA LUMPUR, 10 June 2024—Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and Pacton Technologies Sdn. Bhd. have officially signed a Letter of Collaboration (LoC) at a ceremony held in Bilik Nilam, Anjung Menara, UTMKL. This event signifies the start of a strategic partnership in Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), communication technology, and more.

Pacton Technologies Sdn. Bhd. is a vibrant network and telecommunications solution provider established in 2018. The company’s goal is to innovate the telecommunications industry with a diverse portfolio that includes Customer Premise Equipment (CPE), IoT solutions, and AI technology development. Beginning at UOA Business Park, Shah Alam, Pacton has expanded internationally, with operations in Melbourne, Australia, and Indonesia within five years. The partnership between UTM and Pacton is expected to facilitate collaboration in research and development, university-industry grant applications, consultancy, training, social services, and human capital development, strengthening ties between the university and industry.

During the ceremony, UTM was represented by Assoc. Prof. Ts. Dr. Mohd Naz’ri Mahrin, the Dean of the Faculty of Artificial Intelligence (FAI), while Mr. Faisal Shadli Hj represented Pacton Technologies. Arshad, Director of Pacton Technologies. The event was also attended by Dato’ Nik Mod Amin Bin Nik Abd Majid, Chairman of Pacton Technologies Sdn. Bhd.

During his speech, Associate Professor Ts. Dr. Mohd Naz’ri Mahrin expressed gratitude and appreciation for the collaboration. He mentioned that this partnership came about following a visit by UTM researchers to Pacton’s office in Shah Alam on 12 July 2023. The positive discussions during that visit paved the way for various research opportunities, including industry grants, knowledge sharing, and human capital development.

The three-year LoC agreement includes potential projects such as AI-Powered 5G CPE, IoT Systems, and Automatic Precision Fish and Shrimp Feeder Systems. These projects align with UTM’s Signature Research Areas, including Next-Generation Systems and Networks, Biomedical and Healthcare Engineering, and Smart Living and Sustainable Cities.

This collaboration is expected to enhance the reputation of joint research with the industry at both national and international levels. UTM and Pacton Technologies anticipate that this partnership will yield innovative and high-impact solutions, benefiting not only both parties but also the wider community.
