Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has made significant strides in the Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2024, showcasing its dedication to sustainable metrics and excellence in higher education.
UTM has maintained its third position in Malaysia and 164th globally, marking a notable improvement from its 180th position in 2023. This advancement underscores the university’s continuous efforts to enhance its impact and reputation on the global stage.
One of the most impressive aspects of UTM’s performance in this year’s edition is retaining its first position since 2022 and now ranking 56th globally in SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). This achievement reflects UTM’s role in fostering research, innovation, and industrial development in the country and its strategic focus on advancing industry and infrastructure through cutting-edge research and innovative practices.
In SDG 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), UTM has also made remarkable progress. The university is ranked third in Malaysia and 96th globally, demonstrating its commitment to promoting inclusive and just societies. This ranking is a testament to UTM’s strong institutional framework and its efforts to uphold justice and peace within its community and beyond.
UTM’s focus on quality education is evident in its SDG 4 ranking, where it secured second place in Malaysia and 70th globally. This achievement translates to a continuous enhancement of UTM’s academic reputation on a global scale. The university’s dedication to providing high-quality education is a cornerstone of its mission, reflecting its ongoing efforts to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for future success.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of UTM, Prof. Datuk Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, UTM has a balanced approach to enhancing educational quality, innovation, and institutional integrity. By excelling in multiple SDG indicators, UTM reinforces its reputation and impact on global sustainable development. The progress made is a clear indication of its commitment to achieving excellence in all facets of higher education.
“These remarkable achievements in the THE Impact Rankings 2024 reflect UTM’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and innovation. Our focus on sustainable development goals not only elevates our global standing but also underscores our dedication to making a meaningful impact on society. Through our enVision UTM 2025 initiative, we are concentrating on the ‘impact’ and ‘outcomes’ of our research, ensuring that our contributions are both innovative and solution-driven.
