SID 2024: Fueling Innovation in the OG Industry

The recent SPE UTM-SC INTELLECTUAL DAY 2024 (SID 2024) witnessed a convergence of innovation and collaboration within the oil and gas sector. Held physically on March 30th, 2024, at building N24, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Johor Bahru, the event provided a platform for students to showcase their talents and explore the depths of the industry under the theme, “Shaping the Future of Energy Leaders: Exploring Oil & Gas Knowledge Beyond The Horizon.”

Students from diverse faculties actively participated in two significant competitions: the Oil Rig Design Competition and the Petrobrain Competition. The former, comprising five teams, focused on engineering and design challenges, while the latter, with sixteen teams, evaluated participants’ knowledge of the complexities of the oil and gas industry. Throughout the event, participants displayed remarkable determination and creativity, working collaboratively to develop innovative solutions and demonstrate their understanding of the industry. Esteemed judges from the industry meticulously evaluated the submissions, ensuring that the winning teams were rightfully acknowledged for their exceptional contributions and dedication.

“We’re thrilled to see the level of talent and enthusiasm displayed by the participants,” remarked one of the organizing committee members. “Their innovative ideas and passion for the industry are truly inspiring.”

The event concluded with the announcement of the winning teams, followed by expressions of appreciation to all participants, faculty members, and organizers who played crucial roles in making SID 2024 a remarkable success. “We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the winning teams and express our sincere appreciation to the judges for their invaluable support,” stated the committee. Reflecting on the event’s success, the committee emphasized the importance of continued collaboration and innovation in navigating the evolving landscape of the energy sector.
