AI Empowerment in Academia: UTM Expert Engages UNPAD Students with Insightful Lecture

BANDUNG, 7th May 2024—Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Murtadha Mohamad from the Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) delivered an insightful lecture to around 100 students from the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) at Universitas Padjadjaran (UNPAD) in Bandung.

His presentation focused on the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) under the theme “AI Empowerment: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Academic Excellence and Daily Efficiency.”

Dr. Murtadha highlighted the significant ways AI can enhance academic processes, specifically:

1. Improving Academic Efficiency: AI can automate administrative workflows and optimize resources, making tasks like managing student records and scheduling classes more efficient.
2. Advancing Research Capabilities: Researchers can leverage AI to analyze large datasets, identify patterns, and make data-driven decisions. This capability is beneficial for predicting market trends and understanding social dynamics.
3. Enhancing Student Engagement: AI-powered adaptive learning platforms can provide personalized learning experiences tailored to individual student needs, which fosters engagement and improves knowledge retention.

He also proposed three AI initiatives for UNPAD to consider:

1. Interactive Chatbots: These can offer instant assistance and enhance access to various resources, including course information and library services.
2. Predictive Analytics: This tool can forecast student performance, enabling early identification of struggling students and allowing for timely, targeted interventions.
3. Natural Language Processing (NLP): NLP can analyze research articles to extract insights and identify research gaps, helping researchers refine their work.

Throughout his lecture, Dr. Murtadha engaged with students, encouraging them to explore AI applications in their academic and daily lives. He concluded with a call for responsible AI development, emphasizing the need for transparent, fair, and bias-free algorithms.
