Heartiest congratulations to Kugambikai Vangetaraman! Second Place Winner at YPWLC 2023

Kugambikai Vangetaraman, a PhD student from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), has secured second place in the Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition 2023 (YPWLC). Her impressive achievement is a testament to her hard work and expertise in the field.

The journey towards winning this prestigious accolade began with the Materials Lecture Competition 2023, where 14 exceptional participants from various universities across Malaysia competed in the semi-final round held on August 2nd, 2023. UTM hosted the virtual semi-final and final rounds in collaboration with the Institute of Materials Malaysia (IMM) and the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, UK (IOM3 UK). From this competitive pool, five finalists were selected, representing Universiti Tenaga Nasional, Universiti Malaya, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Taylor’s University, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. The final round of the competition took place on August 28th, 2023.

 

The Young Persons’ World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) is an international event held by the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3). The final round is held in countries and regions where IOM3 has international branches or sister institutions. The winners of this round have the honor of competing in the world final, which rotates to different locations each year. The YPWLC competition is now in its seventeenth international event and fourth virtual event, with the world final of YPWLC 2023 taking place on November 9th, 2023.

Kugambikai Vangetaraman, a participant from UTM, won first place at the MLC 2023 Final, earning the opportunity to represent Malaysia in the YPWLC 2023. Although she secured second place in the global event, her achievement is nothing short of remarkable. Lodewikus Vorster from South Africa took first place in the competition, while Georgina Burgoyne Morris from the UK came in third.
