SHAH ALAM, August 12, 2023 – A team from the Faculty of Chemical and Energy Engineering (FCEE) at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has delivered an impressive example of innovation and commitment at the International Millennipreneur Innovation and Commercialisation Exhibition (IMInE) 2023. The team, comprising Assoc Prof Ir Dr Mazura binti Jusoh (Team Leader), Dr Aishah binti Rosli, Hafizuddin bin Sutimin, Ramyah a/p Sekaran and How Chee Yang, secured not only the prestigious Gold Award but also the titles in the “Best Idea Technology and Innovation” and “First Runner-Up Technology and Innovation” categories. Their ground-breaking project, the “Multiple Probes Cryo-Concentrator (MPCC) for Water Removal and Purification,” played a crucial role in this remarkable success.

This remarkable success was achieved at the International Millennipreneur Innovation and Commercialisation Exhibition (IMInE) 2023, held on August 12 2023 at the Dewan Agong Tuanku Canselor (DATC), UiTM Shah Alam, Shah Alam, Selangor, Malaysia.

The team’s exceptional achievement is due to their innovative project, the MPCC, which aims to streamline the concentration process, reducing time and costs in various industries, including food and pharmaceuticals. The MPCC is an energy-efficient approach that maintains product quality and has established itself as a versatile and cost-effective solution. Its applications range from the concentration of proteins and pharmaceuticals to wastewater treatment, and make an important contribution to environmental sustainability. The MPCC will revolutionise industries looking for efficient and sustainable methods of water concentration.

The IMInE 2023 competition, organised by the Malaysian Academy of SME & Entrepreneurship Development (MASMED) and Universiti Teknologi MARA, attracted over 1,000 innovators from various countries, including Malaysia, Kazakhstan, Ghana, Singapore and Indonesia. The event showcased 200 innovative products and solutions in six clusters, providing a platform to recognise innovations with high impact and global potential. The closing ceremony was crowned by the presence of Malaysian Education Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled bin Nordin, who officially closed the event.

The UTM team’s outstanding success at IMInE 2023 is a testament to their tireless dedication, innovation and commitment to tackling real-world challenges. Their project, the MPCC, is poised to revolutionise various industries and have a significant positive impact on water purification and concentration.
