The UTM-STAR event was held at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sedili Kecil, Kota Tinggi from 27th until 28th January 2023. The event was organized by final year Physics students from the Department of Physics, Faculty of Science who are taking Astrophysics class (SSCP 4163). The program received partial funding from UTM iLeague under the Academic Service Learning (ASL) program. UTM-STAR aims to introduce the children to the night sky and inspire their interest in science. This was achieved through hands-on activities such as fun games, water rocket competition, astronomy knowledge sharing and stargazing sessions.

The stargazing session was enlightened by the participation of the Johor Astronomy Club (JAC). JAC brought 7 telescopes for stargazing session, providing the children to learn about different types of telescopes. Additionally, UTM brought 3 telescopes, including a 8-inch Do It Yourself (D.I.Y) telescope, adding to the variety of telescopes available for the students to use.

The program was officiated and closed by Assoc. Prof. Abd Khamim Ismail, the Physics Director from Faculty of Science, UTM. He excitedly praised the effort of the students in organizing such a fun and scientific event for the children. The closing ceremony was attended by Penghulu Mukim Sedeli Kecil, Tn. Azmir bin Mad Razuki, Ketua Kg. Sedili Kecil, Tn. Bakri bin Abdullah, and Headmaster of SK Sedili Kecil, Cik Mariyana binti Deraman and the teachers.

The event was a wonderful opportunity for UTM students to show their skills and knowledge, while also inspiring the younger generation to pursue a career in science. Program Director, Mr. Fikri Fahmi Faiz bin Michi and the whole Astrophysics class should be commended for their hard work and dedication in organizing UTM-STAR. Their effort in bringing together the necessary resources and support was crucial in making the program a reality. In conclusion, UTM-STAR was a success, with full cooperation of SK Sedeli Kecil and the support from UTM iLeague and JAC.
