The intervarsity hackathon, which took place at MRANTI in Kuala Lumpur, was the first Blockchain hackathon ever held in Malaysia. It was sponsored by Algorand and Reach and was organized by Women Blockchain Asia (WIBA), with participation from numerous Blockchain companies from Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

By winning all the top prizes in this intervarsity hackathon, FC UTM outperformed all other universities in Malaysia, demonstrating their leadership in the field of blockchain technology. A blockchain technology expert, Ts. Dr. Nur Haliza Abdul Wahab, thinks that UTM students are capable of more, and she is eager to send them to Asia-Pacific (APAC) Blockchain Hackathon in April 2023 to compete against other Australian, Vietnamese, Philippine, Thai, and Singaporean institutions.
She said, “the winning is not only from her and the winners’ effort, but also from other lecturers and individual who are really supportive and helpful in preparing the students to the final Hackathon.”
There are several mock pitch and training sessions with the help from Ts. Dr. Siti Hajar binti Othman and Dr. Syed Hamid Hussain Madni from FC, Ts. Dr. Azlin binti Abd Jamil, Mr. Amirul Shahrin bin Amir and Mr. Nadzreeq bin Nor Majid from Department of Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation). Not forgetting the help from Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir, Prof. Ir. Dr. Sevia Mahzaliza Idrus Sutan Nameh, Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Ahmad ‘Athif bin Mohd Faudzi, Dr. Suhaila Mohamad Yusuf, Ts. Dr. Noorhazirah Sunar and others who give the support directly or indirectly.

Algorand, as the grand sponsor for the Intervarsity Hackathon with WIBA, are happy to support UTM to create Blockchain Student Club. According to what they said, UTM students are using Reach to produce unanticipated results using their programming talents. This has happened in a very short amount of time. They asserted that UTM students’ quality may be comparable to that of international students from other Asian and European countries. This proves that UTM creates programmers and developers of the highest caliber thanks to excellent course structured offered.
