The 7th Malaysia-Japan Joint International Conference (MJIIC), International Conference on Advanced Technology and Applied Sciences (ICATAS), and University-Industry-Government Partnership for Environmental Resilience and Sustainability (UIG4ERS) was successfully held from 25th – 26th October 2022 at Concorde Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

These conferences are academic events jointly arranged by the collaborative effort between Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology (MJIIT), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Japan University Consortium (JUC) and Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (AASTMT), Egypt.

These conferences were chaired by Professor Ts. Dr. Ali bin Selamat (General Chair), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Hamidah Mohd Setapar (Program Chair), Assoc. Prof. Ir. Ts. Dr. Azura binti Hamzah (Organization Chair of ICATAS), and Ts. Dr. Sumiaty binti Ambran (Organization Chair of MJJIC) from MJIIT.

MJJIC and ICaTAS highlight recent and significant advances in research and development in Sustainable Energy and Environment, Disaster Risk Reduction Management and Resilience, Digital Technology, Mathematics and interdisciplinary works. These conferences provide an opportunity to speakers and delegates from multi-discipline engineering backgrounds to share their new and innovative ideas and/or findings will be the aim of the conference.

UIG4ERS Special Side Event is to explore the possibilities of UIG4ERS Partnership for building environmental resilience and sustainability in Malaysia. This event invites speakers and the participants from Malaysia and Japan with various expertise in disaster risk reduction (DRR) and management to discuss on topics, including application of satellite data and technology for DRR and flood and debris flow management utilizing Big Data and IoT (Internet of Things).

The opening of these conferences was officiated by the General Secretary of the Ministry of Environmental and Water, Professor Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini Ujang. This ceremony also was attended by His Excellency Mr. Takahashi Katsuhiko (Ambassador of Japan to Malaysia), Professor Khaled A Shehata, (President, Consultant for Scientific Research, AASTMT), Professor Masahiko Tachibana (Chairman of the Steering Committee, JUC, Shibaura Institute of Technology), and Professor Ts. During this dinner event, the best paper awards also have been presented to the participants. The closing ceremony was held in the main ballroom, and 14 best presenter awards have been given to the participants.

With participation of a large number of young researchers, it can be a platform for new collaborative ventures and strategic alliances to gain better insights into engineering research and technology innovation to harness the strength and synergies to bring further prosperity to the nations. As the future becomes more competitive and challenging, it is important to remain relevant and maintain the performance for continuous improvement in research and education. As such, this conference will be most significant as we explore and share ideas to further enhance our research.

The conferences were also sponsored by two main event sponsors that subscribed to the Platinum Sponsorship Package, IHI Corporation and Nippon Koei Co. Ltd. My utmost gratitude also goes to the co-sponsors, Leave A Nest Malaysia Sdn. Bhd., Nisshinbo Singapore Pte.
