FTIR Experts Entrusted with the Development of ICT Strategic Planning for the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia

The Office of the Chief Registrar of the Federal Court of Malaysia (PKPMP) has awarded a grant for Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) through the Razak Faculty of Technology and Informatics (FTIR) to develop the ICT Strategic Planning (ISP) 2021-2025.

Senior Lecturer from FTIR’s Advanced Informatics Department, Dr. Suraya Yaacob, was awarded RM45,000 research grant to lead this study, together with two other team members, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Roslina Ibrahim and Ts. Dr. Nur Azaliah Abu Bakar, both from FTIR.

The fundamental goal of ISP is to establish an integrated vision between business and technology, which indirectly aids the Malaysian Judiciary System, particularly in the digitisation effort. In response to the epidemic, the digitisation trend and adoption of new technology have quickened, with many courts adopting online hearing capabilities and migrating to online forms. An effective ISP will direct the creation and maintenance of information technology that enables PKPMP activities to be carried out in a dynamic and ever-changing environment.

As the demands of the communities they serve change, so do the justice systems. Technology is both a driver and a tool for meeting these changing needs. New communication procedures can address societal inequities and make legal processes more accessible to more people, in more languages, and at a lower cost.

UTM team is responsible for aiding PKPMP in giving feedback for all ISP development efforts and identifying concerns, problems, and solution proposals through workshops and engagement sessions. Furthermore, the team extensively analyses all information gathered and aids in identifying core services, processes, data, applications, and technology for the specified field.
