Various nature-related programmes were held in conjunction with World In Sustainability And Environmental 2022 (WISER’22), organised by Kolej Tun Razak (KTR) student-leaders.
One of them was sharing a sustainable community module with children from Rumah Fitrah Qaseh.
This community service programme encouraged students to involve themselves with the environment by exchanging thoughts and experiences with the residents of this home.
Besides, knowledge-sharing concerning reuse, reduce and recycle (3Rs) was also part of the activity.
We hear the words ‘reuse, reduce, recycle’ quite often, which are regularly utilised as content in environmental programmes.
WISER’22, KTR sustainability program, took this opportunity to expose the children of the Rumah Fitrah Qaseh to 3R through various attractive activities in the module, in which the facilitators have developed.
On 22nd March 2022, about 15 facilitators from KTR did community work with about 50 children from the shelter.
They created a module divided into four parts: ice-breaking activity, a talk on 3R by Mr. Zulkifli bin Mohamad from The Solid Waste and Public Cleansing Management Corporation (SWCorp) Johor Bahru, an education module, and a planting activity with the children.
There were three different age groups of children in the shelter, and the module developed according to their age group.
In addition, the module’s design helped the students to better understand and appreciate the effort that goes into promoting 3R activities.
This program proved significant for the students as they learned the importance of maintaining strong communities.
