In conjunction with Research Carnival Week (RCW 2021), School of Graduate Studies together with Postgraduate Student Society, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), had successfully organized Graduate Research Exhibition Competition (GREx) 2021 on 16 June 2021.
The participated postgraduate students were required to submit their E-poster through a provided google form. During the judging session, they were required to undergo 5 minutes of presentation and 5 minutes of Q and A session.
There were 129 postgraduate students who participated in this competition which divided into three categories: Engineering, Science and Technology as well as Social Science and Humanities. Gold, silver and bronze medals were given to the winners selected by the appointed juries. Among the winners, the best poster design was also selected for each level, Master and PhD.
For the engineering category, the judging session was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zainul Amar Zakaria (Faculty of Engineering), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohamed Sukri Mat Ali (Malaysia-Japan International Institute of Technology), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zurina Mohamad (Faculty of Engineering). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rafiziana Md Kamsani (Faculty of Engineering), Dr. Khairul Hamimah Abas (Faculty of Engineering) and Dr. Syafiqah Saidin (Faculty of Engineering).
For the Science and Technology category, the judging session was led by Dr. Fong Wan Heng (Faculty of Science), Dr. Nur Arina Bazilah Aziz (Faculty of Science), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Siti Sophiayati Yuhaniz (School of Graduate Studies, UTM KL), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zaly Shah Muhammad Hussein (Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arifah Bahar (Faculty of Science) and Dr. Shamsulhadi Bandi (Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying).
For the Social Science and Humanities category, the judging session was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Jusoh (Azman Hashim International Business School), Dr. Norah Md Noor (School of Graduate Studies, UTM JB), Dr. Nurbiha A. Shukor (UTMLead) and Dr. Norasykin Mohd Zaid (Faculty of Social Science and Humanities).
During the judging session, marks were given by the juries of respective categories based on the judging criteria outlined. The E-posters from presenters were evaluated based on their content as well as design. All the juries had cooperated in the selection of the best poster design for both Master and PhD levels of study.
There were a total of 124 presenters who had won in the GREx 2021 which were 27 gold medal winners, 79 silver medal winners and 18 bronze medal winners.
Besides that, congratulations to Nur Nawwar Ahmad Farouk (Master student) and Salina Sadeli (PhD student) who had received the best poster design awards.
GREx 2021 was a great platform for postgraduate students to present their research in both creative and innovative ways through posters. It was also an opportunity for students to sharpen their presentation skills for research findings that more accessible to audiences with different fields of expertise.
