The 6th Biennial International Group Theory Conference 2021 (6BIGTC 2021) was organized by the Department of Mathematics, School of Advanced Sciences, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India in collaboration with the Department of Pure Mathematics, Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Mashhad, Iran. The conference was held from 4 March 2021 until 6 March 2021. The main sponsor for this conference is Ramanujan Mathematical Society, India.

The Biennial International Group Theory Conference (BIGTC) is a conference organised every two years. The first BIGTC was organised by the Applied Algebra and Analysis Group (AAAG), Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in 2017 at UTM Johor Bahru, Johor. It was then followed by universities from different countries as the host, including Dogus University, Istanbul, Turkey for 2BIGTC 2013, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, Iran for 3BIGTC 2015, back to Malaysia (at UTM Kuala Lumpur) for 4BIGTC 2017 and Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia for 5BIGTC 2019. For this year, the conference was held online through the Zoom application due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of this conference is to gather all the experts and young researchers from various countries to share and exchange ideas in group theory and related fields.  All researchers can use this platform to share new research and ideas with all the participants.

The participants for 6BIGTC2021 came from various countries including India, USA, UK, Italy, Iran, France, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, Russia, Czech Republic. There were 160 participants who attended and a total of 21 experts in group theorists who presented as invited speakers for the latest conference. One of the speakers was our very own Professor, Prof. Dr. Nor Haniza Sarmin from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, UTM.

Other invited speakers from all over the world were Prof. Dr. Mehri Akhavan Malayeri from Alzahra University Iran, Prof. Dr. C.R. Leedham-Green from Queen Mary University of London, UK, Prof. Dr. Mark Lewis from Kent State University, USA, Prof. Dr. Alexander Zimmermann from University of Picardie Jules Verne, France, Mr. Souvik Pal from Harish-Chandra Research Institute, India, Prof. Dr. Pudji Astuti and Prof. Dr. Intan Muchtadi from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia, Prof. Dr. P.G. Tamizh Chelvam from Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, India and Prof. Dr. G. Muhiuddin University of Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.

Besides Prof. Dr. Nor Haniza Sarmin as one of the invited speakers, ten other academic staff and postgraduate students from the Department of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science, UTM, also had attended the conference and presented as speakers in the contributed talks session. They were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nor Muhainiah Mohd Ali, Dr. Ibrahim Gambo, Nurhidayah Zaid, Mohammad Hassan Mudaber, Nabilah Fikriah Rahin, Nabilah Najmuddin, Muhammad Bello, Athirah Zulkarnain, Nur Athirah Farhana Omar Zai and Amira Fadina Ahmad Fadzil. The 6BIGTC 2021 had also provided a venue for UTM experts to share their latest findings.

Congratulations to Dr. Ibrahim Gambo who won Second Place for the best paper awards. In short, the conference did not only exposed the young researchers and postgraduate students to the knowledge of research but also provided huge opportunities for potential collaboration in terms of research and publication in the future.
