Three Rising Stars from FABU Bag Gold and Silver Awards at MNNF Network Research & Innovation Poster Competition Series 1/2021

Three young ‘scientists’ from Faculty of Built Environment and Surveying (FABU), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), have shown their research prowess when they bagged one gold and two silver awards during the MNNF Network Final Year Project and Postgraduate Research and Innovation Poster Competition.  Congratulations to the three young scientists led by Dr. Nurul Hazrina Idris for their outstanding achievements.

By working on the research projects that related to the theme of climate change, these research projects have supported the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 13, climate action and 14, life below water.

According to the gold award recipient, Siti Fatinorain binti Mohd Sam, the competition had enabled the opportunity to present her research ideas through a visual and colorful poster. “The event challenged my capability to be creative and innovative in presenting my research findings in a poster. It is indeed a great opportunity to be exposed to speak my ideas in a creative way”, she said.

Siti Fatinorain is a final year student of Bachelor of Science Geoinformation, who received a gold award when presenting her research ideas on the “Impact of Sea Surface Temperature Rise Towards Sea Turtle Hatchling in Terengganu Coastal Seas”.

During the event, there was two other students from FABU, Siti Sarah Farhana binti Ahmad and Muhammad Haikal Fayyadh bin Munadi, who won the silver awards when presenting their research projects on “Monitoring Oil Spill Impact on Mangrove Forest using Satellite Remote Sensing Technologies”, and “Projecting the Sea Level Rise Using Deep Learning Technique and Geospatial Technologies”, respectively.

The event was participated by more than 65 projects from across all sectors and academic backgrounds. First introduced in 2019, the event aimed to provide a platform for students to present and share their final year project, thesis, or dissertation and to encourage research and innovation culture among students.

Congratulations again to the rising stars of UTM, Siti Fatinorain binti Mohd Sam, Muhammad Haikal Fayyadh bin Munadi, and Siti Sarah Farhana binti Ahmad.
