The School of Education (SoE), Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH), had proudly organised Adjunct Professor Lecture Series via FSSH Facebook Live on 8th September 2020. Through this lecture series, UTM staff and students were able to engage with Adjunct Professor to enrich their knowledge and learn wisdom from an educator and researcher.
In the first series, Prof. Dr. Keith S. Taber, Professor of Science Education from the Faculty of Education, University of Cambridge, shared the Challenges and Strategies in Disseminating Research through High Impact Journal. This sharing can be reached through this link https://web.facebook.com/367141090487913/videos/2720799898200428
The Chair of the School of Education, Prof. Dr. Fatin Aliah Phang in her opening session had highlighted how Prof. Keith possesses vast experience in Science Education especially through his membership as the Fellow of Royal Society Chemistry, RSC and Institute of Physics.
Prof. Keith is also the Chief Editor of RSC Advances in Chemistry Education book series and editorial board member of a long list of high impact journals. He explained that the quality of publications is highly dependent on a good quality of writings (often English), matching work to outlet (choice of journal), execution of study (data collection and data analysis), design of study (methodology, choice of techniques, sampling and etc.) along with conceptualisation of a study.
Prof. Keith who is the recipient of Royal Society of Chemistry’s Education Award Winner 2014, also emphasised the three core journal criteria that should be addressed by authors, which are remit, quality and novelty. Research coherence is equally important to represent the quality of work. He clearly stated that a well-planned study can be well or poorly reported, but a poorly planned study will not lead to a good research report. He genuinely advised researchers to build up area of research, have a deep interest, and become real hunger to learn about the area.
Through this Adjunct Professor Series, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noraffandy Yahaya and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Aqeel Khan, the academic staff of SoE, seized this opportunity by asking questions to Prof. Keith on publication strategies. The live lecture had successfully attracted 1.4k views and 76 comments throughout the session.
After the session end, Prof. Keith shared that he was delighted when delivering the lecture and he was also excited to plan for another lecture session soon. The session was run by the SoE Studio Task Force of School of Education where the members are Dr. Noor Dayana Abdul Halim, Dr. Chuzairy Hanri, Dr. Nina Diana Nawi and Dr. Noorzana Khamis.
