FSSH-USSH Colloquium Enhancing Researchers Collaboration in Social Sciences and Humanities

With the aim to expand the network of international relations, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) organized International Education Colloquium (IEC) Program with Ho Chi Minh National University which is University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), Vietnam on 22nd September 2020.

This virtual colloquium which focuses on social science research in educational studies, international relations and language is the first collaboration between two renowned universities in the South East Asian region.

The program was officiated by Prof. Dr. Zaidatun Tasir, Dean of FSSH. Meanwhile, the welcoming address was delivered by the Vice President of USSH, Dr. Le Huang Dung.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahani, Director of FSSH, led the IEC program with the aim to provide a platform for the exchange of knowledge, skills, and experiences among academicians, researchers, and postgraduate students on their research activities and findings within their field of expertise.

With the theme “Educational Research Trends in Malaysia and Vietnam”, the IEC also aimed to enhance the quality of the studies conducted at both institutions through presentations and discussion sessions.

The keynote speeches were delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Azlina Mohd Kosnin, FSSH Deputy Dean of Academic and Student Affairs on the topic “Struggles and Survival Skills for Postgraduate Studies” and also by Prof. Dr. Duong Minh Quang, Vice Dean Faculty of Education on the topic “Research Trends of Postgraduate Students in Faculty of Education”, aptly addressed the concerns and issues faced by postgraduate students and researchers in academia.

A total of eight presenters presented their research work in the parallel sessions. The presentations covered the topics of STEM Education, Language Studies, TVET Education, Research Methodology, Pedagogy and International Relation.

To date, the colloquium which was streamed live via FSSH Facebook page had successfully attracted 3.5K viewers. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahani who gave the closing speech highlighted that this collaboration will further be forged in the form of organization of joint conferences and academic visits to the respective universities.
