The Minister of Human Resources, Yang Berhormat Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, awarded a certificate to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia for recognizing the Master of Science (Safety, Health and Environment) programme as safety and health officer (SHO) training centre. The award ceremony was held in Putrajaya on July 9, 2020.
The Minister of Human Resources said that Malaysia needs more SHO to accommodate the safety and health requirements at the workplace while improving the safety and health of workers.
The certificate was received by Dr Norafneeza Norazahar, a program coordinator from the School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering. The Director of Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Office (OSHE), Associate Professor Dr Mohamed Wijayanuddin Ali was also invited to attend the ceremony.
The recognition is for all Malaysian graduates of Master of Science (Safety, Health and Environment) from 2008 to 2023. Graduates with three years of work experience in safety and health fields are eligible to apply and register as a safety and health officer without attending the SHO training courses.
The Master of Science (Safety, Health and Environment) programme which started in 2008 and has produced 375 graduates until 2019. The majority are hired in various industries and universities to work in the area of safety or health.
The School of Chemical and Energy Engineering, Faculty of Engineering is listed on the DOSH website as one of the safety and health officer training centres.
