Lau Yin Yee, an engineering student from the School of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia ( UTM ) was chosen to embark on a life changing experience by becoming one of the few participants for a program in collaboration between a world-renowned technology company and the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.
The program which is called MOE-Huawei Seeds For The Future 2019 Program was organised annually starting from the year 2014 and the main goal of this program is to develop local ICT talent, enhance knowledge transfer, promote a greater understanding and interest in the telecommunications sector, and improve and encourage regional building and participation in the digital community.
This program recorded a participation of a total of 1,912 students from 19 universities and only 30 participants were shortlisted after a series of test and assessment and Lau Yin Yee was one of them. According to her, balancing the time between study and taking the test to qualify for the program was not easy and that was where she learned about time management. Her hard work paid off when soon after, she was chosen as the top 10 finalists.
Being in the program had given her an opportunity to experience the working culture of Huawei first-hand in Shenzhen, China. According to her, the first and foremost things that was being exposed to them during her visit in China was about the culture and heritage of the country itself by visiting the monuments and sacred places. Even though technology has expanded to a greater extent, the culture and heritage must be preserved as its reflect the beliefs and aspiration of the people
Knowing the culture of a country is more than just seeing but its about learning it and this was done during her time being exposed to the Chinese martial arts and learning about their native writing and painting at Beijing Language and Culture University ( BLCU ).
The next part of her visit was all about knowing Huawei and what makes it one of the fast developing technological companies by visiting Huawei University in Shenzhen. Her time in the university was occupied by learning the basics of telecommunication network from 1G to 5G, key technology of ICT and 4G and 5G base station data configuration.
According to her, the MOE-Huawei Seeds For The Future is a great program for university students to know the latest industry trends and gain the ICT training sessions. Moreover, technology changes over time and she urges university students to grab this opportunity to explore and experience the rapid development in ICT industry especially in telecommunication networks.
