JOHOR BAHRU, January 11, 2016 – The Vice-Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Prof Datuk Ir Dr Wahid Omar has launched the “Because We Care Chancellor’s Fund” to assist UTM students.
The fund is aimed at assisting needy students from low-income families who are facing financial difficulties in meeting ends meet as a student. The fund also aims to ensure that no UTM students go hungry, as food is one of the most basic needs in sustaining human life.
Establishment of the fund was the initiative of Her Royal Highness Zarith Sofiah binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, Permaisuri Johor, who has always shown concern for the welfare of Malaysian students in general, and UTM students in particular. For starters, Her Royal Highness, who is also the Chancellor of UTM, has generously contributed RM50 million to the fund.
The “Because We Care Chancellor’s Fund” was launched at the Vice-Chancellor’s 2016 New Year Address at Sultan Iskandar Hall, here today.
